Dr. Geoffrey Hall, Lab Director

Dr. Geoffrey Hall is a Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. He is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. He serves on the Editorial Board of the journal, Language Learning and Development and has been an Associate Editor of the journal, Child Development, and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal, Developmental Psychology. Dr. Hall’s research focuses on language and cognitive development in infancy and early childhood. Dr. Hall’s secondary research area is Cognitive Science.

Erica Dharmawan, Graduate Student

Erica is a third-year PhD Student at UBC’s Developmental Psychology program. Her current research projects explore whether children categorize and evaluate artifacts according to the identity of their maker. In her spare time, Erica enjoys going on walks, baking, and watching movies.

Heyli Arcese, Lab Manager

Heyli received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Law and Society from UBC. She’s passionate about developmental research and plans to pursue graduate studies in clinical/counselling psychology to support youth’s well-being. Outside of the lab, Heyli enjoys running, reading, and volunteering in her community.

Billy Lam, Research Assistant

 

Billy is a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a major in Honours Psychology and minor in Commerce. His developmental research focuses on how children/adults evaluate artifacts, but he is also interested in clinical topics such as anxiety, depression, and psychotherapy. In the future, he hopes to pursue graduate studies in clinical psychology. With his spare time, Billy enjoys karaoke, learning Korean, and working on various Python projects around the lab.

 

Sabrina Luk, Research Assistant

 

Sabrina is in her 3rd year pursuing a major in Speech Sciences and a minor in Psychology. Her passion for speech and language acquisition has driven her to hold a deep interest in exploring more about children’s lexical development. She would love to learn more about the use of word mapping in monolingual and bilingual children and how lexical ambiguity may affect language processing. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, playing piano and badminton, and exploring the beauty of nature.
